Carolina Panthers: 2026 NFL Draft Preview

Team Needs

QBWROL

Carolina picks at #19 after trading Bryce Young to the Saints in October for a 2026 second-round pick. Andy Dalton finished the season as the starter, but at 38, he's a bridge — the Panthers still need their franchise quarterback. With Mendoza going #1 and Ty Simpson likely off the board by #19, Carolina may have to get creative.

Top Prospect Fits

1. Ty Simpson

QBAlabama

If Simpson falls to #19 (possible but unlikely), the Panthers would pounce. His athletic ability and Alabama pedigree make him the clear QB2 in this class. Carolina traded away Young — they need to find his replacement eventually.

2. Garrett Nussmeier

QBLSU

The Senior Bowl MVP with quick-rhythm passing and timing. At #19, Nussmeier would be good value — a local-ish product who could develop behind Dalton before taking over in 2027.

3. Carnell Tate

WROhio State

If the Panthers pass on QB at #19, Tate gives them a true WR1 — a polished receiver with elite body control and only 1 drop on 67 targets. He'd immediately upgrade the receiving corps.

Draft Strategy

The Panthers are in a tricky spot — they need a quarterback but Mendoza will go #1 and Simpson likely won't fall to #19. Simpson is the target if he falls; Nussmeier is the backup plan. If neither is available at value, Carolina can take the best player available and address QB through the 2027 draft.
